MATERIALS DONATION POLICY

The Thomas Crane Public Library welcomes donations of materials or money for materials by groups, individuals, citizens of the city or beyond, foundations, corporations, etc. These gifts must meet standard criteria; any materials received may be added to the collection, exchanged, given to other libraries, discarded or sold at the Friends of the Library book sales, the proceeds of which help pay for library programs.

The library does not accept donations of encyclopedia sets, old textbooks, highlighted books, magazines or LP recordings.

The library encourages bequests and memorials to honor those in the community who have been loyal patrons and supporters of the library.

Groups or collections of materials cannot necessarily be kept together as a group, and the library will most likely not be able to accept such gifts because of the financial costs of handling them.

The library cannot be responsible for the appraisal of gifts for income tax or other purposes.

Gift items will be acknowledged and may be designated by a bookplate.

Adopted by Vote of the Library Board of Trustees, May 13, 2002
